ACTING 1

Prerequisites: none

Acting 1 is a year long class that teaches the basic principles, terminology and disciplines of acting. THIS IS A HANDS-ON CLASS!!!! Students will read and discuss various play forms to learn to appreciate drama as an art form.  Students will participate in various skits, one-act and two-act plays, acting exercises, and improvisation during the year. 

 

You will need to pass both semesters of Acting 1 in order to move on to Acting 2. 

 

ACTING 2

Prerequisites: one complete year of Acting 1

Acting 2 is a year long performance based class. During the first semester we focus mostly on preparing pieces for the district competition. Second semester is spent acting in longer plays including a dinner theatre, the Lakeland District Theatre and Performing Arts Festival and Night with the Stars. If there is a large interest in this class, auditions will be held. Students may take this class multiple times. 

IMPROV

STAGECRAFT

Prerequisites: none

Improvisational Theatre (Improv) is a semester long class that will help improve spontaneity, creativity, and characterization skills. Students will learn the basics of improv as well as how the art form relates to other forms of theatre (traditional acting, stand-up, sketch, and invisible theatre). Students will perform in three improv nights throughout the semester. 

 

 

STAGECRAFT 2

Prerequisites: none

This year long course is a hands-on introduction to the understanding, designing, crafting and execution of theatrical productions. Our objective is to learn the basics of theatre terminology and to obtain the hands-on skills to properly execute the basic theatre production. Students will learn about the history of theatre, jobs in theatre, makeup design, costume design, set design, properties design and much more.

 

Prerequisite: Introduction to Stagecraft

This year long class goes in depth with the things learned in Introduction to Stagecraft. Students will be creating costumes, building sets, applying make-up and much more. Students will also be required to submit a technical entry for the distict competition.
